YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan – The 374th Security Forces Squadron hosted the fourth annual 374th Mission Support Group training day on July 21, 2021, where Airmen from other MSG squadrons learned about the SFS mission.

The training was conducted as part of the group’s goal of improving Yokota’s agile combat employment capabilities, allowing for faster contingency response with a smaller footprint.

“In a combat situation, you have all of these different career areas that don’t necessarily work as a singular unit,” said Master Sgt. Charles Bell, 374th SFS Superintendent of Plans and Standards Assessment. “The ACE concept will take care of that. It could be a maintainer, who just knows the basics of the security forces, coming to help us. Or it could be a member of the security forces, who goes to 374 Logistics Readiness Squadron to help them refuel and get planes off the ground.

The full-day event took place at SFS headquarters, where participants were able to get a little insight into the daily life of an advocate. The day was filled with practical exercises, instead of lectures.

“There is a lot that we can teach with PowerPoint, but preparation comes when we actually apply it,” Bell said. “This training arouses the enthusiasm of our trainees while showing them what we do.

“One of the trainings we did was Multiple Interaction Learning Systems / Training Objectives, which are ‘shoot, not shoot’ scenarios,” he added. “We also had a stick training, where the trainees had to fight a simulated fighter. And to top it off, there was taser training and oleoresin capsicum spray for all the volunteers who were up to the challenge.

According to Senior Airman Tyler Gutierrez, 374th SFS training instructor, the training enables members to learn to react to high stress situations in a safe and controlled environment.

“I think this type of training is very important,” said Gutierrez. “As all of us are in the military, it is imperative that we rely on each other, especially in a deployed environment or during emergency operations. “

MSG will rotate training within its squadrons each month. Each time, the training will become more detailed, producing more airmen, more efficient and more competent.
