Golden Goose Yatay Model 1B sneakers made from recycled and bio-based materials
Sustainable fashion is not just a trend, it is quickly becoming a way of life. This is an important step to take, especially if we are concerned about what kind of planet we want to leave for our children.
Golden Goose is a brand that aims to preserve traditional craftsmanship in a dying world. It aims to create more conscious consumers with the type of products it designs, manufactures and sells in the market. The artisanal hand must be preserved as each item offers natural warmth and creativity despite imperfections.
Creator: Golden Goose
The company introduces the Yatay Model 1B as a new pair of vegetable-based sneakers. The idea isn’t new, but we’re excited to know that other similar, long-lasting efforts are coming to market. With this pair, Golden Goose is gradually advancing towards its mission of becoming a carbon neutral company. It aims to be a sustainably managed brand with its many efforts starting with its partnership with another brand that offers plant-based and recycled materials.
Yatay is a spin-off brand that will hopefully use greener and more efficient technologies. The Italian luxury company got the term Yatay from the Butia Yatay palm. It is also a palindrome that shows the “principle of circularity”, referring to sustainability.
Yatay Model 1B eco-friendly sneakers are made from a bio-based material made from vegetables. The pair also uses recycled polyester, while the sole uses biodegradable rubber. The design is minimalist so the pair can be worn with most outfits.
The monochromatic off-white doesn’t make it a trendy choice, making it a better option for those who want a neutral and simple design. The pair already has that worn and alive look (at least the hand-engraved sole), which makes it look more natural. Each pair is made more special with the embossed number. It comes with a QR code that will one day be used when the wearer wants to plant a tree.
However, the Yatay Model 1B is not cheap at $350. It’s in the same price range as some of the newest and trendiest sneakers from the biggest sports brands on the market. The “green” pair also features an ethically sourced viscose base. It’s white almost everywhere: white recycled cotton, white polyester laces, white left heel with hot-stamped unique code, white right heel with hot-stamped logo, white Y in biobased material and biodegradable white rubber sole. The upper is made of 71% organic polyurethane, 15% polyester, 12% cotton and 2% viscose.
