Heart sneakers from Converse and Comme des Garçons are back redder than ever

Do you remember that time when you couldn’t escape everyone wearing the Converse sneakers with red heart faces? Well, get ready for another wave, but maybe better. PLAY and Converse, the sub-label of Comme des Garçons, are gearing up for a new take on their signature Chuck 70 that puts a fresh spin on an otherwise tired concept.

Cherry on the cake – The collaboration includes two sets of Chuck 70 sneakers, each available in high-top and low-top versions. Black or white premium canvas uppers contrast with details in the opposite color. The branding then continues as usual with the All-Star logo and CDG heart face appearing on opposite sides of the ankle.

The twist of this version comes from a cherry red sole that does not lack shine. For the first time, Converse infuses the red hue into the fox, referencing the strip of material that secures the upper and sole through a vulcanization process.

What’s an extra pair? — While Chucks are a staple for people in all corners of the market, CdG’s latest release is meant to celebrate “young creatives pushing the boundaries of culture through art, music, and skateboarding,” according to the website. While they’re making the case for kicks worn by those who follow their own heart and footsteps, you’re very likely to see them on the bases that have already turned “sneakers with hearts” into a meme for their ubiquity. .

CDG PLAY’s heart logo is an easily recognizable piece of hypebeast iconography, and that alone could have made it another collab. The logo has been memeed by TikTokers, including in the “hypebeast starter pack” format and the #HeartShoeBad hashtag. But perhaps the red bottoms can give the silhouette a final breath of fresh air 12 years after the two brands began their partnership.

The CdG Play x Converse Chuck 70 will drop Thursday, March 24 for $150 at Converse, Comme des Garçons, and Dover Street Market. Previous releases are easy to find these days, and prices on platforms like StockX aren’t too far off from retail. If you haven’t passed by the CdG x Converse trainers for fear of being clowned around, these may be the ones that will give you heart eyes.
