Laiik’s New Greek Sneaker Worthy of Artemis — Greek City Times
Greek-made brand Laiik launches its first eco-leather sneaker that fits the goddess Artemis herself.
Three years after redefining the classic Greek leather sandal for the modern American and international woman, U.S.-based footwear brand Laiik extends its proud Greek craftsmanship to one of the most popular and competitive categories in the world. market: handmade leather sneakers.
With their playful aesthetic that blends modernity with classic tradition, Laiik spent over a year designing and refining their first sumptuous, eco-friendly leather sneaker – the Artemis.
“Like the Greek goddess of the hunt herself, we wanted to build a sneaker that was in tune with the natural world,” Laiik co-founder Helene Theros told the Greek City Times.
“So we set out to create something exceptional, a beautiful sneaker that is both uniquely Greek – classically stylish, durable, comfortable – but most importantly, raising the bar for environmental responsibility and sustainability.”
Just like the brand’s handmade sandals, it always starts with leather.
The sneaker is dressed on the outside in a blend of buttery, chrome-free vegetable-tanned leathers that are free of harmful toxins that pollute groundwater. And inside, the Artemis’ leather lining is non-toxic, fully biodegradable, breathable and incredibly soft.
“From the start, we knew we wanted this shoe to contribute to, and even raise the bar for, a sustainable fashion cycle,” says Helene, “but of course, as a sneakerhead myself, I really didn’t want to not that we sacrifice comfort or style.
“I think we’re getting there,” she adds.
Not settling for the best, Laiik has made sure his environmental footprint matters where the rubber meets the road. Literally.
After searching across Europe, Laiik discovered a sole manufacturer in Portugal with an innovative range of rubber sneaker soles using 70% recycled rubber.
According to Helene’s brother and co-founder, Nickolas, “We really wanted to spare no effort when it came to being friends with the future. Once, for as long as possible, the soles of our Artemis sneakers have completed their life cycle, they can be reprocessed again as new material for new sneakers. We are very excited about this.
Available initially in three rich textures and colors, including a textured all-white and a Hellenic blue and white, the Artemis features small details including its proud λ (lambda) swoosh and a touch of Greek-inspired hardware.
Still handcrafted, Laiik’s Artemis sneakers, along with its collection of sandals, shoes and boots, are proudly made in two family-owned factories in Athens, Greece from the finest European materials they can find.
