Order Yakima Chief Hops’ New Pink Boot Mix, Supporting Women in Brewing, here
It’s always a good idea to support. Yakima Chief Hops (YCH) recently announced the presale of its 5th annual Pink Boots Blend in partnership with the Pink Boots Society (PBS). PBS is an international, non-profit organization whose mission is to help, inspire and encourage women in the fermented and alcoholic beverage industry, and YCH is a global supplier of 100% owned hops. producers.
The Pink Boots Blend, which you can pre-order here, is an annual hop blend and is part of YCH’s pursuit to promote inclusiveness in the industry. Each year, women in the brewing profession around the world collaborate with YCH on a new blend recipe through an extensive virtual selection process. This year’s selection included women from 37 different sections of PBS in five different countries.
For the 5th annual mix, YCH was able to offer a virtual selection kit to any active Pink Boots chapter in the world. This has resulted in the delivery of over 60 kits to several countries, including the Czech Republic, Canada, Australia, South Africa and the United States. Each chapter conducted its own sensory analysis on several varieties of hops and submitted the recipe for their âdream mixâ. With these submissions, YCH’s sensory and planning teams strategically compiled information on which hops were selected most frequently and at what percentages. YCH created three final mix recipes that best represented all of the information gathered and PBS Chapters were invited to vote!
Each team then submitted their top pick for the final mix, resulting in 50% of the teams choosing mix A. Mix A consists of Idaho Gem, HBC 630, Talus, Triumph, and Loral. The expected brewing values ââare 12.5 percent alpha, with expected aromas of citrus, sweet aromatics and berries. Stay tuned for the official mix description in early January.
The blend is then released for pre-sale to commercial brewers and a portion of the proceeds goes to the PBS scholarship fund. This provides educational opportunities for women in the industry to help them advance in their careers and develop their leadership skills. To date, over $ 381,000 has been donated.
This year, YCH and PBS have taken a milestone with the 5th anniversary of the Pink Boots Blend, which will reach kettles around the world in early 2022. This occasion is made even more special with the 15th anniversary of the Pink Boots Society. next year. . To celebrate, they set a goal of selling 50,000 books and reaching a total global contribution of $ 500,000.
The order deadline is December 15, which allows time to ship and brew by International Women’s Day on March 8, when PBS hosts their Pink Boots Collaboration Brewing Day.
